There are two other options I don’t recommend using. If your Markdown application supports HTML, you can use the HTML tag.įor compatibility, use trailing white space or the HTML tag at the end of the line. For this reason, you may want to use something other than trailing whitespace for line breaks. It’s hard to see trailing whitespace in an editor, and many people accidentally or intentionally put two spaces after every sentence. It’s still absolutely wonderful to be able to bang out a document that looks lovely using markdown syntax, and for that, its a few quid very well spent.Nearly all Markdown applications support the basic syntax outlined in the original Markdown design document. So, it’s pretty good and it’s my preffered option of those I’ve tried, but it could certainly be improved on. I contacted the support team, but I didn’t hear back. I found a small bug with the markup of bullet lists (I think – I could be wrong). The split panes also don’t automatically stay together when you scroll or type.
A few other apps make a stab at achieving this, but IMHO don’t really manage it. The split panes showing plain text and styled text is okay, but really, I’d much prefer to be just writing styled text using markdown syntax – I don’t have any great belief that there’s something holy about the plain text original. Markdown Pro’s a fine App for this, but I feel it could do a lot more. Writing semantics, not messing about with formatting. I like this App, but mostly, I think, because writing in markdown is great.
